Estimates of Net International Migration for Demographic Analysis 2010

Demographic Analysis (DA) is an important tool used by the U.S. Census Bureau to evaluate the quality of the decennial census. Estimates of net international migration (NIM) represent an important component of DA, however producing reliable estimates of net international migration has, historically, been difficult. For DA 2010, the Census Bureau is using a variety of methods and a combination of survey, census, and administrative data to estimate net international migration from 2000 to 2010. The resulting range of estimates is evaluated in an effort to better understand the uncertainty that exists in our estimates. This paper discusses the methods and data used and presents a range of net international migration estimates for the April 1, 2000 to April 1, 2010 time period.
