Trends in Early Fatherhood: A Comparative Analysis between EU and the USA

Studies of fertility usually focus on women, while men are excluded for a variety of methodological, sociological, and biological reasons. The rising importance of issues related to men and male parenthood in family planning programs has sparked an increased interest in male fertility. The main objective of this work is to provide information about early male fertility for several European countries and the USA. The relationship between family characteristics and early-age parenthood is studied using regression analysis models. Trends in early age fertility of males for various populations are examined, providing a cross-country comparative analysis. Gender differences are also studied for each of the above populations. Appropriate parametric models are used for the estimation of age-specific fertility distributions.
