Couple Interaction and Predicting Vulnerability to Domestic Violence in Uttar Pradesh

During the last few decades, increasing attention has been paid to the issues of domestic violence. Gender-based violence against females affects women’s sense of personality, causing insecurity, lack of safety, loss of health, and self importance. Domestic violence has emerged as a potentially important factor for sexual, reproductive and child health, contraceptive behavior, and infant death. But the question of which factors derive the dynamics of domestic violence has not received adequate attention. This study explores the relationship between domestic violence and couple interaction using logistic regression techniques. For this study NFHS-III data from Uttar Pradesh, India has been considered. Findings reveal that 43 percent of females in the society suffer from physical domestic violence. In the case where the couple makes decisions jointly, this risk of violence against the female falls by 27 percent.
